Mana BioBlitz

"How can we expect to preserve and protect biodiversity if we don’t even know the names of the plants and animals that share our neighbourhood?”

Robert Bateman

To make the Mana BioBlitz 2011 a successful event, we were privileged
to have support from a wide range of instiitutes and organisations.
Particular thanks to:
UNESCO, who are keen to support the BioBlitz as a learning platform for schools and enabled us to provide the free educational Discovery Guides
and class trips, as well as the back up material - such as this web site.
Forest & Bird, Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, Mana Community Grants Foundation and WWF supported us and allowed us to generate promotional material and put the basic organisational structure in place to make the Mana BioBlitz 2011 a reality - to create an educational event that the local community want participate in.
Porirua City Coucil for providing the premises for Base camp to operate from, and to the Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club for allowing us to use their club as the venue for our launch and close events.
DOC, who are a fundamental partner as Mana Island is a scientific reserve,  their help with the logistics and practicalities to bring this project to launch and take it through the month is essential - and
much appreciated.
And of course to all the wonderful scientists from NIWA, Te Papa and Victoria University - without these people's generous donation of time, energy and their specialist taxonomic skills there would be very few confiirmed identifications - and an extremely short list of species for
the database.
Basically we need you all to create such a great BioBlitz team and
this fantastic event - Thank you!
